The Horseracing Industry Conference, in its sixth year, organised by the Racing Foundation in partnership with the University of Liverpool Management School, has regrettably had to be postponed due to the planned train strike on May 31 with further disruptions expected on major lines to York on the day of the event, June 1. The conference will now take place on Tuesday October 24.
York Racecourse was the ideal location for this year’s conference, with its easy accessibility via public transport together with the timely launch of their environmental sustainability strategy. The Racing Foundation is committed to environmental sustainability and the 2023 conference is planned to be its most sustainable yet. All areas of the environmental impact in delivering the event from energy to water, food, resources and waste are being carefully managed. The Foundation has committed to reducing emissions and waste and offsetting the remaining amount through a recommended, high quality carbon offset scheme.
The CEO of the Racing Foundation, Rob Hezel commented “data has been collected to calculate the carbon footprint of the event so we knew well over half of the delegates registered for the event were planning to travel by train. It is important we remain true to the values and the pledges we have made around this event, and therefore we have taken the difficult decision to re-arrange the date. Tuesday 24 October is the only date we have been able to identify and we hope that it gives people enough time to rearrange their plans.”
A core objective of the conference is to attract a diverse audience and to create a valuable networking opportunity for the delegates throughout the day, which is why it has been postponed rather than rolled out online. We want to assure delegates that the tickets for the original date will be automatically transferred to the new date. This means that there is no need to take any action if you still plan to attend the conference on October 24.
