The Racing Foundation has funded a new initiative designed to support young people entering the racing industry by providing accommodation within a welcoming household environment.
Delivered by the Newmarket Charitable Foundation in partnership with the British Racing School, Stable Start connects aspiring young racing professionals with local hosts who can offer both accommodation and support as they embark on their careers.
Andrew Braithwaite, Chief Executive of the British Racing School, said: “When our students complete their training, they begin their careers in yards across Newmarket and beyond.
“Having access to safe and supportive accommodation during this crucial transition can make a huge difference in their experience and success.
“Hosts participating in the Stable Start project will also receive comprehensive support as they house and mentor our young learners.”
The Racing Foundation funds a number of programmes aimed at supporting a diverse cohort of young people entering the industry and its Chief Executive Tansy Challis considers it a vital part of building a sustainable future for the sport. “We are pleased to support the Stable Start initiative, which will play an important role in ensuring the next generation of racing professionals has the foundation they need to succeed,” she said.
“By providing young people with safe, supportive accommodation, Stable Start will create a positive environment for them to thrive in.”
Stable Start is backed by additional funding from two key industry leaders, Godolphin and Tattersalls. Their contributions will enable a two-year pilot programme, with the goal of creating a sustainable model that can be expanded both in Newmarket and across the country.
