Julia Budd

Julia Budd

CHAIR

Well known to key stakeholders in racing, Julia has held high-profile positions across the industry and has been involved in the sport as an owner for the last 30 years.  At board level, she was appointed as the Jockey Club’s first female steward in its 261-year history in 2011 before progressing to Deputy Senior Steward from which she retired in 2020 and is currently Chair of the British Racing School. Julia has also held grassroots positions within the industry including working as a racecourse steward and currently volunteers for Racing Welfare as part of their ‘Check in and chat' service.

Linda Bowles

Linda Bowles

Senior Independent Director

Linda Bowles has been a Trustee of the Racing Foundation since 2018 and in 2023 was made the Senior Independent Director. She has been a HR Director for over 25 years across a wide range of sectors including a seven year term at The Tote and a nine year term at The Jockey Club. She was a founding member of the Diversity in Racing Steering Group and of the Racing With Pride committee. Linda has also served as a member of the Pony Racing Authority Advisory Committee on Career Pathways. As well as having a lifelong passion for horseracing, she is a keen supporter of Welsh Rugby.

Jim Boyle

Jim Boyle

TRUSTEE

Jim Boyle is an Epsom-based trainer with 22 years of experience training racehorses and has amassed over 500 winners and £3million in prize money. 
He is also a qualified veterinary surgeon. After graduating from Bristol University in 1996 and working in mixed practice, he latterly specialised in equine veterinary medicine. 
Still active on a number of industry bodies, he served as President of the National Trainers Federation between 2014 and 2016.

Louise Kemble

Louise Kemble

TRUSTEE

Louise has an impressive track record in the Racing and Breeding Industry and is well known for her work whilst occupying the position of CEO at the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association.  Louise now runs Elms Bloodstock from her stud farm in Northamptonshire and also holds the post of Secretary-General of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents (GB) Ltd.  Louise is a member of the Cheltenham Racecourse committee and a director of the Newmarket Stud Farmers Association.

Alice is responsible for strategy, planning and governance of the world’s largest wealth manager, UBS, and also leads the global Philanthropy Services team. Whilst previously working abroad in Hong Kong and Switzerland she completed the Thoroughbred and Horseracing Industries MBA at the University of Liverpool.  

Rishi Persad

Rishi has become a popular and recognisable sports broadcaster in the UK after representing a number of major television companies including the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 during a career that first began in May 2002. He has appeared at some of the most high-profile events around the world covering golf, cricket, snooker, tennis and has represented the BBC at the last five Olympic Games. However Horse-Racing has always been where his heart is and he remains an integral member of the talent teams at both ITV Racing and Racing TV.

Algy is an experienced fund manager and co-founder of Jupiter Merlin Portfolios. He is a horseman who has been involved in British racing and breeding for over 30 years, originally riding as an amateur jockey for David Nicholson. He is passionate about the future of thoroughbreds and racehorse breeding.

Tansy Challis

CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Tansy Challis is a graduate of Cambridge University with a BA and MA in English. She has 15 years of experience working in the charity sector, including four years at the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust in Cambridge and just under six years at Racing Welfare as Trust Fundraiser and then Head of Fundraising. Tansy has worked for the Racing Foundation for many years having previously been Grants Manager and then Head of Grants and Programmes before taking on the Chief Executive role in 2023.

Rhi Lee-Jones

HEAD OF COMMUNICATIONS AND EVENTS

Rhi leads on every aspect of the Racing Foundation's communications channels of owned and earned media, including writing and executing the communications strategy. Acting as a communications consultant for the Foundation’s sporting beneficiaries, she advises on the development of their own strategies and how to deliver them. She also manages the Foundation's events and organises the annual Horseracing Industry Conference, which sees delegates from across British racing and other global racing jurisdictions attend a day of learning, challenge and debate. An experienced communications executive, Rhi previously worked as a horse racing journalist for the BBC and as an equestrian sport presenter. She is a keen equestrian herself and enjoys eventing her ex-racehorse.

Stan Wong

Grants Manager

Stan is a seasoned grantmaker with deep experience in health and human rights, racial and gender justice, and corporate social responsibility. He has more than 20 years in the non-profit sector, with 15 years of practical experience in corporate philanthropy.

Prior to joining the Racing Foundation, Stan was the Senior Programs Manager at the Levi Strauss Foundation—the corporate foundation of Levi Strauss & Co. He managed a portfolio of international grants that included HIV/AIDS, worker rights and well-being, and reproductive health.

Originally from New York, Stan has lived and worked in Bangkok and Singapore. He now resides in Newbury.

Antonia Bullrich

Antonia Bullrich

Social Media and Content Executive

Antonia holds a BA in Film, Television, and Digital Production from Royal Holloway, University of London. She currently oversees content creation and manages social media for The Racing Foundation. With prior experience as a videographer at Pololine TV for two seasons, she also served as the lead videographer and editor for the Royal Charity Polo Cup for two consecutive years. An avid equestrian photographer, Antonia enjoys both playing and watching polo in her spare time.
