The Racing Foundation has published an action plan on equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) after adding its signature to British racing’s unified Industry Commitment to improve Diversity and Inclusion across the sport.
As a funder of improvement with people and community engagement as two key areas of focus in its 2021-2023 strategy, the Racing Foundation is dedicated to driving change in the area of diversity and inclusion in British racing.
The action plan highlights the Foundation’s plans across five key areas: leadership and accountability, good governance, education and awareness raising, celebrating and supporting racing’s diversity, and engaging new audiences.
In December 2021 the Foundation signed up to British Racing’s Diversity and Inclusion Industry Commitment.
The commitment currently has thirty two signatories across British racing which formalises horseracing’s approach to ED&I.
Organisations that sign up are asked to commit to assigning a Diversity and Inclusion lead at both executive and board level with each identifying their own priorities and activities for their Diversity and Inclusion Action Plans.
In April 2022 the Diversity in Racing Steering Group’s (DiRSG) also launched the sport’s first Diversity and Inclusion E-learning module to provide educational opportunities on diversity and inclusion.
Free to access and open to anyone within the racing industry, the module focuses on improving awareness and providing a step-by-step guide and learning experience on diversity and inclusion and can be accessed on the Racing2Learn platform.
Tansy Challis, the Racing Foundation’s ED&I executive lead, said: “At the Racing Foundation, we recognise the importance of formalising our approach towards ED&I at executive and board level as well as through our grant giving activities.
“Through the ongoing implementation of our action plan, we will deliver on our pledge to the Industry Commitment and collaborate with the other signatories to make horseracing truly a sport for all.”
